PERSONALITY | Narcissa Malfoy has always been the vision of perfection. It all started when she was a small child and her mother would put her and her sisters through lessons on social graces. They were strict lessons, as her father told them that marriage was all that they were worth. So Cissa paid close attention to each move her mother taught them. She learned that her place in the world was to be seen by all and not heard unless she had something light and witty to say. Now she speaks with a charming smile that would leave any many longing for her even after a brief conversation. Whenever she fails to maintain the perfect image of herself she takes it out through self punishment, mostly by restricting her diet. Perfection might be the wrong word when it describes Cissa since she borders on the obsessive compulsive area. Any little flaw bothers her to the point where she must correct it as quickly as possible. For example, at her wedding she was getting ready and there was one strand of hair that just refused to curl properly. It would have ruined any photographs of the event so she quickly chopped it off and moved on with the rest of her hair. It is just how she is. She was brought up knowing that flaws were a sign of weakness and Cissa was never to appear weak to anyone. Always strong and always pure.
As the youngest she was often babied by Bella, who felt the need to protect her young and blond sister. This left Cissy with a naïve nature when it came to the world as a child. Often she was the child running through the fields outside of their home without a care in the world. Flowers in her hair and a smile that light up her face. For a while her family allowed this to happen since pureblood families that came to visit seemed to gravitate towards Cissa over Bella and Andromeda. Cygnus allowed his youngest daughter to be a bright light in the Noble House of Black but that too had to be brought to an abrupt end. The event that brought Cissa’s reality to a crashing halt involve the death of a muggle child and it destroyed her. For weeks she felt numb to everyone around her as she faded into the background. A bright light that was quickly extinguished. No one outside of the house took notice that something was different about Cissa because she was able to play the part that she had been taught. A fake smile would continue to light up her face even though on the inside she felt distant from everyone. The only person that can truly bring a smile to her face is Lucius and he knows this about her.
Her family life might not have been the best situation for a small child but Narcissa still learned the lesson of loyalty to her family name. It was a good name from a noble heritage that she should be proud of and do nothing to disgrace. Cissy kept her mouth shut about their father’s harsh ways since any little flaw could bring down the entire family in an instant. So no one really knows what happened behind closed doors at the Black Manor. All that Narcissa knows is that she looks forward to the day that she can bring a child into this world and raise them with love. Her sisters were the most important thing to her as a child but now she has a husband to love. Lucius has lost his temper. Lucius has never been cruel like her father, which is why Narcissa holds Lucius higher than her father and mother.
Cissa has always been cunning and determined when it came to her situation in life. These are the traits that got her into the house of Slytherin. Cissa has always been determined either in school or in life to further her own reputation and in turn further the reputation of her family name. She knows who the important player’s area and has learned most of their strengths and weaknesses. She doesn't know Lucius' end game with this war but she knows that they must survive. Survival is key.

HISTORY | The birth of a second daughter brought great disappointment to Cygnus Black. His marriage to Druella had been based on her ability to bear him a son and so far she had failed to deliver, but Cygnus knew that they could always try again. So he gave his wife some time to relax and raise her newest daughter before he told of her his plan for her to conceive again. Her first reaction was fear that she would fail him again but she gave into her husband’s request and they tried again. The wait for the birth was a long and Druella was scared for this child if it was another girl. She begged for a boy but again was rewarded with a girl. A girl that looked different from her first two daughters. Blonde hair and bright blue eyes stared back at her and then she feared that her husband would assume she had been disloyal to him. However Cygnus laid eyes on his third daughter and saw nothing more than another child to find a husband for. Three daughters would be three dowries and three pureblooded husbands to mingle with. It would be tough but after a while he grew used to the idea that he would use them to better the name of Black. Plus they were purebloods so that was always a selling point for them.
Childhood was pretty much normal for purebloods. Her mother taught her everything she needed to know about posture and grace, speaking intelligently, and who was who. There was time for playing between the sisters and time for working towards the goal of being good wives. The girls developed a close bond and Cissa felt safe in the arms of her older sisters. It was hard to hold back the tears as she watched each of her sisters leave on the train to Hogwarts without her. But Cissa stood strong and just waved good bye as she was forced to spent time alone. At least when Bella was at school then Cissa had Andromeda, but when Andromeda left then she was all alone. The quiet of the Black household seemed to leave Cissa was a bitter depression and making her feel uneasy. During this year she took up playing the piano since it created noise in the house. Practicing for long hours seemed to pass the time of loneliness. Of course she made friends with the other girls in her area but the bond was never quite the same as it was with Bella and Andy.
Another year passed and finally she was able to board the train with Bella and Andromeda. Sitting in the Slytherin cart once again hiding in Bella’s shadows was the best place in the whole world. In the cart were most of the pureblood children that she knew allowing her to mingle with them. Not once did she feel nervous as she entered the great hall for the sorting, she was always confident that she would be a Slytherin. The hat called it out, no one was really surprised, and then Cissa took her rightful place with Bella at the Slytherin table. Her time at Hogwarts was spent with her books and with the people that she was required to socialize with because they were purebloods. Unlike some of the purebloods that she knew, Cissa took pride in her work in the classes that she had, showing both a natural skill with the magic and a hard work ethic to bring herself to the top of her class. People took notice of her abilities, but still compared her to her older sister Bella. Despite everyone knowing Cissa, she still felt lost in the shadow of Bella.
Her final year at Hogwarts approached and once again she found herself without the company of her sisters. This time it was an easier transition since there were friends to socialize with and NEWTs to pass. It consumed most of her time, although she always found time to write to Bella and Andromeda. Until she received a letter from her father explaining that Andromeda had married and was not a blood traitor, forever removed from their family. Any contact was forbidden. It was really a hard blow to deal with since on one hand she was forced to bad mouth a sister that she once loved so dearly and even if she could mourn then people would take that as a weakness. Any tears shed over Andromeda had been done in private several months after the incident. There is still a large empty spot within her soul over the loss of her sister. However if asked then Cissa will tell you that she was a blood traitor and probably should have gotten worse than just banishment.
The incident with Andromeda brought great shame onto her family and Cissa could feel the purebloods she considered to be her friends whispering little rumors about her family. For once she didn't feel like her place in life was set in stone. The Great and Noble house of Black was teetering on the brink of shame and collapse. Cissa tried everything within her friends to assure them that the house of Black was not going anywhere and when she returned home for the winter break from school she could see the gleam on her father's face. It was this look of pride that told her that he found a way to ensure their place in the world. Cissa remembered walking into the living and seeing her mother, sister, Mr. and Mrs. Malfoy, and Lucius sitting there sitting on tea. Her father had been standing behind her with his hands on her shoulders, as if holding her in place. No one needed to say it. The situation gave itself away even before her father spoke. A marriage between her and Lucius. She smiled and showed the charm that was expected of her throughout dinner that evening but she was not given a chance to speak with Lucius. They were, however, paraded around at all of the Christmas events, followed by a speedy engagement party in January before she returned to school to finish out her final year.
A correspondence began between Lucius and Cissa while she was finishing up at Hogwarts. It gave them a chance to speak more personably to prepare themselves for marriage. During their time at Hogwarts together they had run in similar circle and they were friendly with one another but Cissa had just never seen him as her husband. Now that had to change but with each letter she felt herself falling more in love with him. He even took the time to formally propose to her before she finally began to plan the wedding of the year. Several hundred pureblood guests arrived to witness the Malfoy Black nuptials and Cissa went through great pains to see that everything was perfect. Her dress set the stage for other purebloods to model their own dresses after and the event was grander than anyone had expected. With no budget limit Cissa planned everything to be extravagant.
Married life became… very routine. Each morning she would sit and have breakfast with her husband before he went off to work. Then in the evenings she would pray that he came home to her instead of going off to do the Dark Lords bidding.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE | Another night in her marriage that Cissa laid awake and wondering if her husband would be returned to her in one piece or in several. Another cold night between the sheets of a bed that she still felt like a stranger in despite having lived there since she was about 20. Even though she had been married to Lucius and they had been sharing this bed it still felt cold and empty to her. Mostly because it lacked the comfort of another because he was too busy serving the Dark Lord. Cissa understood like any good wife would. She understood that he needed to eradicate all of the muggles and the mudblood lovers. Her own sister had been thrown into that list when she married her muggle born husband. Of course Andromeda wasn’t her sister anymore, which was hard to say since Cissy loved her sisters dearly. Now she turned to Bella when she wanted that sisterly bond, however Bella was also out fighting the Dark Lord’s battles. This left her alone and frightened. Outside a storm was brewing as little droplets of rain began to tap at the window. A crack of lightening broke through the sky that would have woken Cissa if she hadn’t already been awake. There was no point is laying there any further so she pushed back the soft comforter and slipped out of the bed. Quickly she wrapped herself in her silk robe before she ventured down the long dark hallway and down the stairs towards the kitchen.
The house was quiet as it normally was at this time of night. Quiet like during her childhood when her sisters were at Hogwarts and Cissa was left alone with her parents. Those were sad memories for the young wife. To distract herself, Cissa put the tea kettle over the fire and quickly muttered the words to bring the hearth to life with fire. A good cup of tea would help her sleep, or so she told herself. While waiting for the water to boil she took out her usual cup and gathered up her favorite tea. It was then that she heard a sound coming from the foyer. It could have been her husband or someone coming to kill her and Lucius. Her heart began to race as she listened to the sound of footsteps, deliberately being quiet as they moved through the house. Cissa grabbed her wand from her pocket and went to investigate, hoping it was just Lucius trying to avoid waking her. Her heart was in her throat as she slipped from the kitchen into the dining room. The footstep had stopped, leaving Cissa to believe that the stranger was in the formal living room. Slowly she pushed the door open and peaked in to see the unmistakable blond hair of her husband as he stood at the bar. A sigh of relief escaped her before she put her wand away. ”Lucius.” She said softly to warn him of her presence. He was a welcomed sight for her. Cissy quickly crossed the room to be within his arm again.
