DISTINGUISHING FEATURES | Lily’s eyes are her most noticeable feature, both for their shape (almond) and their color (vivid green).
STYLE | Lily has never been one to put that much stock in physical appearance, so she has never joined the ranks of young women who slave for an hour in front of the mirror every morning. Of course, this is partially because she has been blessed with a good complexion and uncommonly pretty features. It doesn’t take much to make her look stunning. Still, Lily’s typical style is neat, casual and distinctly feminine. She is equally as comfortable in jeans as she is in skirts. That is not to say that she doesn’t enjoy an occasional evening of glamour - putting on fancy clothes and getting all dolled up is a fun activity for any girl - she just has never made a daily habit of it.

ERISED | She sees herself being named Head Healer at St. Mungo’s Hospital with all her family and friends around to congratulate her.
PATRONUS | doe
AMORTENTIA | the scent of the forest after a rainstorm, spearmint and spice cake
VERITASERUM | Some may assume that Lily Evans has never broken a rule in her life. This is not at all the case. Not only has she smuggled a surprising amount of alcohol into her dormitory, she has also become adept at sneaking into the kitchens for a midnight snack without being caught. Having a prefect badge the past two years has been very helpful, of course, but she could manage the trip safely before then too.
PERSONALITY | Lily Evans' personality can be summed up in six words: clever, kind, loyal, honest, idealistic and brave. Every facet of her personality, all her strengths and weaknesses, stems from these six basic traits.
Her teachers at Hogwarts were quick to note that she is a very clever witch. It seems that no feat of magic is beyond her, particularly if it involves a cauldron and a set of potions ingredients. Her mental acuity makes her a witty and vivacious girl with a playful sense of humor. While this level of intelligence and magical talent would lead some people to unkindness, Lily’s deeply ingrained compassion has always prevented her from using her wit, humor or magical ability at the expense of others.
This innate kindness, combined with her idealism, makes her always ready to see the good in another person. Lily is a firm believer in second chances; it is a rare thing for her to decide never to forgive a person again. Perhaps that is why, after nearly seven years of disdain and cruel treatment, Lily still longs to repair her relationship with her older sister. Of course, this urge to believe the best of others has its downside. There are times when she is so determined to think well of someone that Lily ends up overlooking or forgiving serious flaws in another’s character. In short, she is vulnerable to abuse of trust. It is fortunate that her sharp mind prevents her from being completely naïve in this area.
All in all, Lily makes for an excellent friend. She is unfailingly loyal and always ready to lend a helping hand or be a shoulder to cry on. Combine all of that with her lively nature and it is easy to see why she is so well-liked. Her friends know and appreciate the fact that Lily is so genuine. When asked to give her opinion or advice, she will try to say it as kindly as possible, but she will never lie about it. She never puts on a false front; instead, she simply expects her friends to like her for who she is. And Lily extends the same courtesy to others in accepting them for who they are.
Yet here we encounter a peculiarity in her temperament. Though she truly does value a lack of pretense and seeks to be genuine in all her friendships, Lily is also an idealist. This means that she has high standards for herself, but also that she is a firm believer in all that is good, true and beautiful in the world. She also happens to be a rather stubborn one, which means that she finds it nearly impossible to bend on the principles that she holds most dear, honesty being one of them. Duplicity, as it turns out, is one thing that Lily Evans finds very hard to overlook. She would rather that you openly be someone with whom she cannot agree and whose company she cannot enjoy than that you pretend to be someone she would like. In fact, she would view behavior of that sort as a betrayal of friendship.
She has other faults too, namely stubbornness and a rather quick temper. This stubbornness means that Lily is loathe to abandon her ideals or her opinions of other people. Once her opinion of you has been formed - whether positive or negative - it takes a lot to change her mind. This is something James Potter can attest to. He can also bear witness against the rapid ignition of her temper. That old saying about redheads and their tempers is certainly true of Lily. She won't back down from a fight and refuses to take crap from anyone. However, her temper cools as quickly as it flares up, and since she isn't one to hold grudges, Lily's quick temper doesn't usually cause her any problems.
And now we come to bravery, the last central character trait. Her courage and idealism are what make her a Gryffindor, and it is this part of her personality that makes her so determined to continue to believe in and fight for a better world. Bravery is what enables Lily to risk her safety for a loved one in need, to be honest and genuine, and to remain optimistic and hopeful for her future despite the increasingly darkened state of the wizarding world.
FATHER | Betsy Evans, 38, bank secretary, Lily and her mum are good chums, Muggle.
MOTHER | Nathaniel, 39, factory manager, Lily and her father enjoy a good relationship, though he isn't as close to her as her mother is, Muggle.
SIBLINGS | Petunia Evans, 20, shop assistant, Lily and her older sister are (to Lily's continued regret) estranged, decidedly Muggle.
OTHER | Vernon Dursley, 22, Grunnings grunt. Over the summer holidays, Vernon asked Lily’s older sister to marry him. Since he’s about to be her brother-in-law, he is forced to qualify as family, much to Lily’s chagrin. She finds him detestable, but is too kind to actually treat him that way. She basically avoids him as much as she possibly can.
PETS | Lily grew up with a cat in the house. The current one is a black tom cat that Lily, predictably, at the age of five named “Soot.” More recently, as a present in honor of her being named Head Girl, Lily’s parents bought her an owl, who she has named Oberon.
BIRTHPLACE | Cokeworth, England
CURRENT RESIDENCE | Cokeworth, England
HISTORY | Lily’s early childhood was rather uneventful. She grew up in a typical middle class family, with a mother, father and sister. In her early years, they were at the lower end of the middle class, but once her dad was promoted to manager of the factory in which he had worked for years, the Evans’ finances were less cramped and their lifestyle became a bit easier.
As a little girl, Lily was inventive, inquisitive, sweet and playful. She made friends easily in her primary school, aided by the fact that she had an older sister who was part of the popular set. Lily and Petunia were as different in personality as they were in appearance, but they always got along well.
All of that changed the day that Lily met a scrawny, greasy-haired boy at the neighborhood playground and learned about the world of magic. Until that day, she had never dreamed that her peculiar abilities and the odd accidents scattered throughout her childhood were due to magic. The very idea was exciting and enthralling. She was delighted to discover that the things she had always imagined – magical potions, enchanted castles and dragons – really existed. When her Hogwarts letter arrived, her parents were just as delighted as Lily was, and soon she was eagerly pursuing every bit of magical knowledge that she could attain. This meant that young Lily was growing closer and closer to her new friend, Sev, and further away from her sister, “Tuney.” By the time Lily set off for her first year at Hogwarts, a rift had formed between the two girls that has yet to be mended.
Although she mourned the loss of her close relationship with Petunia, Lily was too happy in her new home to be that concerned. She soon made friends with the other Gryffindor first year girls, although she always maintained her odd friendship with Sev, who was sorted into Slytherin. The fact that Gryffindors and Slytherins were not supposed to associate never bothered her. The next five years passed in a golden swirl of happy memories, until the day of the Defense Against the Dark Arts OWL, when the first crack appeared in Lily’s happy, golden world.
She had been wrong about Sev. Oh she had known that some of his friends were far less than savory and that he was a bit too fond of the Dark Arts for her liking, but Lily had always believed that he would make the right decision, that their friendship was too important to him to be thrown away for the sake of false friends and dark powers. That was why she had continued to forgive him, continued to encourage him along the right path.
To someone as open as Lily, the idea that someone could be one person to one set of friends and an entirely different one to another set was a foreign concept. She had always been sure that she knew who the real Severus was and that he’d come out all right in the end. After the events at the lake, she was forced to confront the troubling possibility that maybe, just maybe, she didn’t know the real Severus at all? If he was playing a part, who was to say that he wasn’t playing her? Whatever his actual motivation was, to Lily, it all seemed to eerily similar to the way Petunia had suddenly turned on her four years earlier. Disgusted and feeling hurt and rejected, Lily ordered him never to speak to her again and he, to her secret disappointment, complied.
Things between the two were quite strained for a while but, by the end of their sixth year, Lily and Severus had managed to rebuild an odd sort of friendship that revolved almost entirely around the Potions classroom. They had always been partners in that class and, when sixth year began, Lily couldn’t stand the thought of working with anyone else. So when he hesitantly took his usual spot beside her the first day of class, Lily said nothing to dissuade him. Gradually, they returned to speaking terms, although their friendship now is a shell of what it once was. Gone are the days when she confided in him or sought out his company outside the classroom. The only time she sees him now is in classes. While she will speak to him and smile at him, she makes no effort to take the conversation anywhere beyond surface level.
Other than Severus Snape, only one other lad has played a significant role in Lily’s life. When James Potter decided, in fifth year, that he was going to date Lily Evans, she did not take kindly to the idea. In her eyes, James was an arrogant bully and someone on whom she did not plan to waste much thought or feeling. If she found his initial attempts to court her annoying, his persistence became even more aggravating. The fact that he had spent nearly his entire scholastic career in a feud with her best friend didn’t help matters either. And thus, no matter how hard he tried to win even a single date with her, Lily refused. Every time. She also tried to avoid him as much as possible, which was hard considering that they were in the same house.
This past summer, though, their relationship has undergone some unexpected changes. Not long after sixth year ended, she was shocked to receive a letter of apology from James. At least she thought it was supposed to be an apology; it was really more of a diatribe against Severus. More out of desire to be polite than any real desire to correspond, she wrote a brief response thanking him for the apology. A few days later, another letter arrived, and she was surprised again. Somehow, out of that first letter, an actual correspondence developed, and Lily began to slowly see that there was more to James Potter than the brilliant, lazy, egotist who was beloved by all and very much abused the power this gave him. By the time she wrote her last reply, she had even moved from signing her letters “Evans” to signing them “Lily.”
But of all the letters she received this summer, to Lily, the most important was the Hogwarts letter that came the first week of August. It contained, to her delight, the Head Girl badge that she had been hoping for since first becoming a Prefect in fifth year. She has no delusions of grandeur or love of power, but she does know that being named Head Girl will look very good on her application to the Healer training program at St. Mungo’s next year. All in all, Lily is looking forward to her seventh year. She’s got a Head Girl badge, a wonderful group of friends and a set of classes she is genuinely interested in. Plus, it’s her last year at Hogwarts. She’s determined to make it a great one.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE |
The fact that Gideon barely recognized her went unnoticed by Lily, as she was concentrating on examining his arm. And on remembering the small amount of magical medical knowledge she had managed to gain thus far. She didn't realize that he was confused about her identity until he began questioning her. Her left eyebrow raised in an expression of amusement as she repeated, “Porter? You mean Potter?” Instantly, her smile softened as she said, “But yes, James is my boyfriend.”
Releasing Gideon's arm, she sat back on her heels and smiled apologetically up at him. “Sorry. I guess I should have introduced myself before barging in,” she said. “]I’m Lily Evans. And... you're Gideon Prewett, right?” She wasn't really surprised that he didn't remember her. She had only been to one Order meeting thus far, and she and the other new recruits had made up half the people there. Really, the only reason she remembered Gideon's name was that he had a twin and little identifying facts like that always help jog the memory.
Conversation returned to the subject of his injured arm, and Lily's eyes lowered to study the gash again. The bleeding was even slower now; it had almost stopped. “Hmmm, well it doesn't look like anything that serious,” she said. “How badly does it hurt?” Her gaze shifted from his arm to his face. His eyes seemed to be focused normally, and all his reactions seemed normal. She doubted he was suffering any serious side effects, which meant that all that needed to be done was to clean the gash before charming it closed. Lily was just about to offer her assistance unsolicited when Gideon asked for it himself.
An eager little smile bloomed on her lips, and she nodded, “If you want me to.” Catching the slightly skeptical look in his eyes, she added for reassurance, “I’m training at St. Mungo's now. We haven't gotten to anything too advanced, but this is just a simple cut. I know how to treat it properly. Promise.” With that, she rose to her feet and pulled her wand from the back pocket of her jeans. “We probably ought to move into the kitchen,” she said. “The light's better in there, and I'll be able to prop your arm up on the table.”
